claudia bosse - HAUNTED LANDSCAPE on an unseen wasteland

diese publikation ist eine zeitung mit 24 seiten, vielen fotografien sowie gedanken, methoden, performativen partituren und spekulationen zum projekt HAUNTED LANDSCAPE on an unseen wasteland: von ende august bis mitte september 2024 fanden eine reihe von interventionen auf einer 2500m2 übriggebliebenen fläche hinter dem wiener hauptbahnhof statt. die unbeachtete fläche wurde zum urbanen labor und mit bildnerischen, performativen und akustischen interventionen allmählich verändert. mit teilnehmer*innen der public performance school PPS_extended 2024 entstanden 3 interventionen mit verschiedenen bildnerischen materialien und live sounds der musikerin katharina ernst. in der publikation finden sich dokumente, artenlisten, erfahrungen, notate und scores im künstlerischen umgang mit einer urbanen brache und dem versuch ihrer nachhaltigen künstlerischen aktivierung.

»This space in between, seemingly ignored by all city users, simply demanded artistic transformation/attention. I wondered if I could use the terrain and if I could combine two artistic strands there to learn more about the place and draw attention to it. (...) the public space in the “haunted landscape/s” series is a laboratory for the physical learning of possible freedom and its structural, social, ecological and architectural boundaries and territories. I propose performative art in public space as an urban experimental arrangement and as a school of consciousness (for oneself, others and the space). 

This opens up a grammar of subversion of normative spatial structures. Moving organisms are tested, for a different ‘ecology of art’, of knowledge and existing resources: artistic or choreographically performative organisms as relational poems that train connections and speculative powers, as imaginations, insights and, above all, physical practices that make it possible to think otherwise. (...) 

as part of HAUNTED LANDSCAPE on an unseen wasteland, the public performance school PPS, as a ‘performative choral corpus’, explores relational conditions and forms of those organisations in which a single element has an influence on the entire system and at the same time on all other elements. It offers a set of conditions that is dependent on and sensitive to each other and only develops its potential in or towards each other. Because every step happens on uneven ground, which is also a habitat for more than just humans. This series of interventions is like a drawing exercise in space, leaving traces on the ground and in the memory of those who were part of it or witnessed it.«

with insects, movement and sounds, we invited visitors to the presentation of our beautiful publication HAUNTED LANDSCAPE on an unseen wasteland on march 21, 2025 at 5:30 pm on the wasteland behind vienna's main railway station.

 as part of the publication presentation, su huber, carla rihl, claudia bosse and lucia mauri gave first insights into the ongoing work on site during a spring ritual, accompanied by music from noid haberl. in addition, dr. thomas zuna-kratky invited to join a speculative insect-tour, which, like the spring ritual, served as an outlook on the upcoming months.
